A jungle rat named Mike (I swear I had nothing to do with the naming) plagued our camp on the Rio Arosa all of our week-long stay. I was pretty upset when I discovered he had chewed through my beloved Red Wing Iron Rangers. Upon my arrival to Cusco I stumbled upon shoe repair shop. I told the owner Andrés of my jungle rat problems and he assured me he could give my boots new life. For 7 Soles (about 2.50 USD) Andrés sewed a leather patch in the boots and sent me on my way. Mike the jungle rat is no longer with us. On one of our last days on the Arosa he happened across one of our medication bins and ingested a deadly concoction of topical steroids and acetaminophen.
