Iquitos is the largest city in the Peruvian Amazon with nearly half a million inhabitants. Because of its location within dense jungles, it is only accessible by boat or airplane. Once in the city proper, motorcycles and motorcycle taxis are the primary means of transport. One of our drivers told us that at any given time there are 25,000 motorcycles operating on the streets of Iquitos. Pictured here is a family on a moped close to the main square. Believe it or not, I actually saw some families going 4 wide. Helmets are almost non-existent.
