I was pretty worried when we approached the entrance of Machu Picchu. It had been overcast and rainy pretty much the whole day and at almost 8,000 feet, the entire citadel was enshrouded in clouds. We decided to kill time and hike up to the Sun Gate, which is about a 45-minute hike further up the mountain along the last portion of the Inca Trail. This photo was taken along the trail. Upon our arrival we couldn't see a thing because of the cloud cover, so we decided to hang out and eat lunch. Just as we were giving up hope on seeing Machu Picchu a slight breeze picked up and lifted the clouds, offering one of the most amazing views I have ever seen.
