In 1996 I wandered into the weight room at the local high school. Among the Metallica cassettes strewn about, there was one that caught me eye and I put it in. That was the first time I heard Hatebreed. It was a free promo cassette from Victory Records. Two Hatebreed songs on one side, two Skarhead songs on the other. It was funny that I stumbled upon the cassette because I didn't actually work out and it would be almost another decade before I would exercise regularly and I didn't even attend the local high school at the time, it would still be another couple of years before I would do so. Somehow, Hatebreed and I were destined to meet. There has never been a day since then where I have thought that "Satisfaction is the Death of Desire" was anything short of a perfect album, even if I don't really do much more than roll my eyes when I hear they are still recording new songs almost 20 years on.
