AlunaGeorge, the british electronic duo, are back with I Remember their first album since 2013’s Body Music. The moment the first song, “Full Swing,” started I knew that I needed this album. There are some tracks that stuck out more than others: “I Remember,” “Mean What I Mean,” featuring Dreezy and Leikeli47, and “I’m In Control” featuring Popcaan. They are all fantastic songs, but “I’m In Control” is particularly awesome.
“I’m In Control” is a electronic dancehall song through and through, from the drum pattern to the breakdown. This isn’t exactly new territory, but they do it well. Everything sounds good; the drums are present and the keys and synths sit well in the mix. The way it all comes together is awesome, it doesn’t overpower Aluna or Popcaan at all, keeping them at the forefront. The breakdown is awesome, the lead synth is breezy in the way it pitches up and down.
Aluna is the star of the show, she addresses sexuality and female empowerment. She leads the beat on, dictating its movements. It breaks when she lets it and sits back when she is in front.
“I’m In Control” in the end comes together like summer fun, bright, breezy, and sunny. Aluna shines over the fantastic production and Popcaan sounds at home. With several other great cuts I Remember is definitely worth checking out.
