Do you like Gatecreeper?
No, Necrot doesn’t rip off Gatecreeper. In fact, Necrot has been doing their thing since early 2011 and the ‘Creeper didn’t come around until 2013.
Why I ask about Gatecreeper is because I like them and I hadn’t listened to Necrot before this month. I almost didn’t listen at all because I thought the album art was the perfect combination of too much and too cheesy. You’ve got an evil dwarf about to knife a baby in front of the the Witch-King of Angmar – yes, a Lord of the Rings reference. I feel like that would be right up these dudes’ alley.
Crazy thing, this album is way better than the album cover suggested. Like, it’s quite good.
Also, about the ‘Creeper reference. I found, perhaps inaccurately, similarities in their approaches to the craft of death metal. Sure, there have been hundreds of bands that did something similar to what both of these bands are bringing to the table, but I happened to be listening to Gatecreeper and Necrot around the same time and realized that there are enough similarities that if you like one, you should definitely be way into the other band as well.
Another cool thing – this album only has eight rippers on it. That means you can headbang, push-mosh, or think about quitting your job to this entire album and never get bored. It’s just going to riff you into solace.
Riffs are good and this thing is full of them.
Trust me. If you can just get over the album covering, you’ll be very into Necrot brand of death metal.
